Luke, Dara and Maribel Rhodes can face anything. Already out of sorts by a secret leaked about their three-way marriage, they are weathering the fallout the best way they know how. They'll get through it though. They're strong. They take care of each other, love each other, and don't care what the world thinks of them. They have plans for the future like any family and nobody can get in the way of that. One day, while instructing a swim class, Luke hears a strange ballad and experiences a perversion of reality. After a series of traumatic, terrifying events, he escapes through a black curtain and leaves the living nightmare. The ballad has not gone away from his head though. Pieces remain. All it takes is a full recollection of it and the nightmare returns. Joined by Luke's miscreant friend Alberto Cruz, the Rhodes family resolves to learn more about these "Lifemares," including how to better escape them. The version of reality left in the wake of these disturbances however can prove more devastating for innocent people, not to mention their now teetering marriage. Will they find who is singing the ballad before it is too late? Or will horrifying nightmares roam the world... forever?
