Kim is the story of a sharp-witted boy who learns about life on the streets of Lahore in India. He is able to pass as an Indian, but is actually an Irish orphan. His friends from all walks of life call him "Friend of All the World." He meets and adopts a gentle old man from Tibet—a lama searching for the Lord Buddha's sacred river. The holy man takes the boy to be a chela—disciple—sent from heaven, and Kim comes to love him. But the authorities discover Kim, give him a Sahib's education, and at 16 years of age, enlist him into the Great Game—the dangerous world of British espionage, at which he excels. Written by the author of The Jungle Book.
