...The siege of Stargard lasted for many days with varying success, with heavy casualties on both sides. The Veneti fiercely resisted the outnumbered Saxons. Thanks to the network of underground passages, they got out of the city at night in small squads and tormented the enemies with constant raids and sabotage.
Volkolaks also did not stand aside. Astrid managed to persuade Knud and Trude to arrange a tag on which she told about her vision. On the tag, it was decided to come to the aid of the Lutici, but to act by raids.
The enraged Meister ordered several catapults to fire at the 'winged pagan girls'. But Sirin and Gamayun deftly dodged the deadly shells.
The constant night raids of the Volkolaks, the resilience of the defenders of city and the birds-goddesses soaring over the battlefield have greatly weakened the morale of the knights. Archers and infantrymen, recruited from common peasants, townspeople and hunters, were unhappy.
It is not known how long the bloody siege would have continued if one of the days had not occurred a turning point that decided the outcome of the battle.
On that day, the invaders again tried to capture the rebellious city, despite the desperate resistance of the Veneti. Gamayun and Sirin hovered over the battlefield. However, Eir and Magura were forced to remain in Stargard in order to help the many wounded.
Hogerfest, determined at all costs to bring down the pagan creatures so hated by him, having lost control of himself, shouted in the heat of the battle to the mechanics controlling the catapults:
"Shoot this flying creature, shoot! We must shoot them down, we must! Otherwise, the Veneti's fighting spirit cannot be undermined!"
Finally, the shells that had been flying into Vyrajians so far unsuccessfully reached their target. A stone from one of the catapults struck Gamayun right in the chest...
