In this 1916 novel, lovely frontierswoman Joan Randle lives with her uncle in untamed Idaho. Her affections for Jim Cleve are tempered by his laziness; following a quarrel, Jim decamps for the lawless Montana border to prove himself, and Joan sets out to bring him back. Instead, she encounters the outlaw Jim Kells.
