Kim Schneiderman gives us powerful guidance for changing our life's story by stepping out of it and rewriting it. Oftentimes when people are suffering, it's because they can't make sense of their unfolding life story. Writing in the third person and making ourselves the hero or heroine of our story will give us surprising insight into the character development that is the goal of every challenge. We can literally re-write a scene with ourselves as the hero. Antagonists, she says, are around to help us build our character. Conflict is an element in almost every story, and it is good for building our emotional muscles. "These challenges that show up in our plot lines are there to help us grow in new ways," she says. The idea is to transform your tragedies into triumphs simply by choosing to interpret your story in a particular way. By creating emotional and psychological distance, we can see things more clearly. "How you tell your story affects how you feel about your story," she says. About the challenges we face in our lives, she says "we can reframe those experiences as opportunities to transform your character...I try to help people see themselves as souls playing roles, but not the roles themselves." (hosted by Justine Willis Toms)
