When Lisa Atwood goes to visit a friend of her mother's and her daughter, Marguerite, in a nearby town, Lisa doesn't expect to have a good time. Marguerite does ride, however, so when she suggests that she and Lisa go riding things start to look up. Marguerite's horse is gorgeous and she's very pleased with it. In fact, so pleased that she rides off and leaves Lisa on a strange trail. Lisa doesn't mind too much—her horse may be old, but she is sweet-natured and it's a nice day.
Then the mare stumbles and Lisa is thrown. She can't ride and she can't walk. She's alone with just the horse for company. The mare stays with Lisa, protecting the injured girl and keeping her warm and sheltered from the rain that begins to fall. Can the horse care for Lisa until help arrives?
