An adventure story of the French prisoner of was St Ives Set in the time of the Napoleonic wars, it begins and ends in Scotland, with Stevenson recreating the scenes of his youth and the castle and streets of Edinburgh The novel was unfinished at the time of Stevenson's death in 1894, and has here been given a convincing and colourful ending by Jenni Calder with the assistance of Bob Storey
