This is the real-life story of 10-year-old refugee Hamid who flees Eritrea with his mother to escape the war and threats to his family from the government.

Told in Hamid's own words, the story reveals the hardship and suffering experienced by immigrants who are rebuilding their lives with little understanding of the language and culture in a new country. Life starts to get easier, but the horrors of the war are never far from Hamid's thoughts, particularly when he receives news of his father back in Eritrea...

The Seeking Refuge stories were originally produced as award-winning animations for BBC Learning by Mosaic Films. This story was created by Andy Glynne and Tom Senior.

These stories deal with the topics of war, separation, immigration and what it is to be a refugee.

Hamid's Story - A Journey from Eritrea can be used to open up discussions for any age range about seeking asylum.

Other titles in the series include Ali's Story - A Journey from Afghanistan, Navid's Story - A Journey from Iran, Rachel's Story - A Journey from Eurasia and Juliane's Story - A Journey from Zimbabwe.

Ideal for tying into Refugee Week in June 2013.

The films also explore the feelings of isolation from their homelands that children can experience when they try to adapt to life in a strange country.
