It is undeniable that all races or countries in the world would have their respective histories. A part of this history is left for the next generation as heritage. It may be said that all races and countries in the world have their own heritage, and it is this heritage that forms the solid evidence of the existence of a particular race or country. This is one reason for the need to preserve heritage, which can be accomplished through conservation and preservation. Furthermore, heritage can benefit the future generations as a tourism product and subject of research. Since the aspects of conservation and preservation of heritage are very important, they require specific attention. Furthermore, they should be a main duty of the relevant agency or authority, and understood and observed by all parties concerned whether directly or indirectly, including real estate developers, contractors, NGOs, landowners, professionals and the public. This is because should a part of the heritage be lost or damaged, it is impossible to be replaced. An effective instrument to preserve heritage would be through the provisions of written law. The fate of Malaysia's heritage is more positive because the government has gazetted special laws for it, namely the National Heritage Act 2005, in addition to several other acts supporting the objective of protecting (including conservation and preservation) of heritage. This book discusses the above matters by presenting four case studies in four locations (in three states) that encompass aspects of management, law, conflict, efforts and others related to conservation and preservation of heritage. It is hoped this book will benefit those concerned, especially students in higher education institutions taking courses related to conservation and preservation of historical heritage.
