Colonel Sir Stephen Allen recounts, with justified pride the history of the 2nd Battalion of the Auckland Regiment, 2/Auckland for short, during the last year of the war. The 2nd Battalion formed part of the New Zealand Division and had seen much action since arriving in France in 1916; at the Battles of the Somme, Fleubaix, Messines and at Third Ypres.
