حزقيال هو كاهن هيكل اورشليم ذهب الى بابل مع المسبين سنة 975 ق م يوم احتل نبوخذ نصر اورشليم للمرة الاولى وبعد اربع سنوات من السبى دعا الرب حزقيال ليكون نبيه فوجه كلامه من المنفى محذرا اليهود سنة 875 ودمر الهيكل وكاد يضيع كل شئ حينئذ وجه النبى الى شعبه كلام التعزية والرجاء .
