Irish McCalla was a beautiful, statuesque blonde originally from Pawnee, Nebraska. An athletic type, she got her big break playing the television adaptation of a comic book heroine that was originated in 1938. "Sheena, Queen of the Jungle" was adapted for television by TV producer Don Sharpe. McCalla was soon stereotyped as a blonde sex symbol who wore jungle girl outfits. On one occasion photographers gathered from throughout New York City to see her walk off a plane in a Sheena costume. The tv series was quite popular among children and teens in the 1950s.
