"From Sand Hill to Pine" is a collection of short stories by the American writer Bret Harte. Harte was fascinated by the romantics of the Wild West and dedicated numerous reports to frontiersmen, gold miners, gamblers, and other romantic figures of the California Gold Rush. He wrote many of his stories from his personal experiences, taking inspiration from people he met in real life and events he witnessed or heard of.
