Jean-Pierre Martinez is a French playwright and scriptwriter. He was born in 1955 in Auvers-sur-Oise, France. He wrote 78 comedies, some of them translated in English (Friday the 13th, Strip Poker, Casket for two, Him and Her, Running on Empty and Critical but stable).

Jean-Pierre Martinez experienced first the stage as a drummer in various rock bands, before to become a semiologist in the field of advertising. He worked afterwards as television scriptwriter, and came back to the stage as a playwright. Today he is among the most played contemporaries playwrights in France. Several of his plays have been translated in Spanish and Portuguese and are regularly produced in the United States and Latin America.
