Frances Anne "Fanny" Kemble was not only a well-known actress and abolitionist but also a talented poet. Her book of poems reflects her personal struggles and experiences, including her failed marriage and her deep empathy for the plight of enslaved people. Here is the collection of her masterpieces, presented in the following book. Featured in this volume of work is 'The Wind', one of her finest: "Night comes upon the earth; and fearfully / Arise the mighty winds, and sweep along / In the full chorus of their midnight song / The waste of heavy clouds, that veil the sky."
