David Handler is an adept writer who has won the Edgar and American Mystery Awards. Each book in his Stewart Hoag series receives enthusiastic reviews from critics and fans alike. They love the dapper, ghost-writing amateur sleuth and Lulu, his perceptive basset hound. For the moment, Hoagy is enjoying bucolic life in the Connecticut countryside. His peaceful days are interrupted, however, by an old friend. Thor Gibbs, 71-year-old macho-man author, roars up to Hoagy's doorstep with the latest love of his life-his 17-year-old stepdaughter. As Hoagy struggles to keep the pack of tabloid newshounds at bay, deception and murder creep into Thor's already scandalous life. Always jealous of company, Lulu waddles into deep depression. Narrator Tom Stechschulte keeps a fine balance between the suspense and comedy as he voices Hoagy's attempts to help his friend and placate the finicky Lulu.
