NEWS & NOTES • Look up! What’s that flying to your yard? For students in Christiansburg, Virginia, it might be a drone delivering a library book. School librarian Kelly Passek started a drone library book delivery service in June, hoping to keep kids reading when schools and libraries closed during the COVID-19 pandemic. A company called Wing was running a pilot program in her area, delivering medicine and food items by drones, and Passek suggested they also take books to students.

BACKPACKING THROUGH THE SIERRA NEVADA • Every year, my troop goes on several backpacking trips. In 2019, we traveled to the Emigrant Wilderness and were on the trail for five nights and six days. Altogether, we traveled about 60 miles. We slept at a lake every night, which was incredible. We also went swimming and side hiking. All in all, we had a great time cooking our meals together while sharing some of the fun Scouting memories we’ve had so far. It was a great environment and a fantastic time.
