Mariana is left practically alone in an unfamiliar city with an unopened letter directed to her recently deceased mother. Completely devastated with only a friend's shoulder to cry on and no real idea as to what to do with her life. She feels as if she is just going through the motions trying to move forward and make a future for herself. Away from the island she was raised in and what she grew up knowing of herself. She never thought to ever doubt her past or her mother's, why would she? With an evening out with her trustiest friend gone bad, she discovers that not only did her mother have secrets but the woman she thought she knew is anything but that. She discovers that the lies are intended to keep her safe. But safe from what? An unknown agreement that her mother arranged has now come to light. An unknown family she didn't know or even associate with. The knowledge that what she believed of her past life is not what is, with unknown truths that are being made known.
