THE INTERPRETATION OF CULTURES
RELIGION AS A CULTURAL SYSTEM
I. In the anthropological works on religion carried out after the Second World War, we find two characteristics: a) that no great theoretical progress has been made, but that the conceptual of the predecessors has been exploited, adding very little and, b) they rest on a well-defined and restricted intellectual tradition (Durkheim, Weber, Freud, Malinowski). But it does not occur to anyone to look elsewhere, such as in philosophy, history, law, literature or the "harder" sciences, for analytical ideas.
