Created by Merwin Gerard and produced by Collier Young, One Step Beyond was hosted by John Newland, "your guide to the supernatural" (also credited as "Our guide into the world of the unknown"). Newland, who also directed every episode, presented tales that explored paranormal events and various situations that defied "logical" explanation. Unlike other anthology programs, the ABC network series episodes were presented in the form of straightforward 30-minute docudramas, all said to be based on "human record" (implying historically factual events); however, the incidents depicted were closer to popular urban legends dramatized for the screen. The program included the corporate name of sponsor Alcoa in its title for its initial run. In syndication, the program title became simply One Step Beyond.

This volume includes Four tales of the supernatural from worlds beyond our own. Included are: Episode One: The Bride Posessed - A bride begins to predict features of an area she's never seen. Audio from the television broadcast of January 20th, 1959; Episode Two: Night of April 14th - A girl dreams of drowning in the ocean, then learns her fiance plans a honeymoon for them — aboard the Titanic. Audio from the television broadcast of January 27th, 1959; Episode Three: Emergency Only - Coming out of a hypnotic trance, Ellen Larrabee predicts a dangerous train trip for a skeptical witness. Audio from the television broadcast of February 3rd, 1959; and Episode Four: The Dark Room - A Woman photographer is almost strangled by a man she doesn't know. Audio from the television broadcast of February 10th, 1959.
