Beatrice Durnbarton is young and in love with Honourable Geoffrey Stonor, Unionist MP. A chance visit to

her relative, Lady Wynnstay, brings her into contact with Miss Vida Levering, a suffragette who has lost all

faith in men. Beatrice's curiosity is aroused and she attends a meeting organised by the suffragettes, where she

hears Miss Levering speak and is drawn into the movement. But why is her fiancé so set against the whole

thing, when he assures her he is, indeed, a Friend of Women?
