Our Mutual Friend is a work of fiction by Victorian author, Charles Dickens. It is his last completed novel combining satire with social analysis. The central theme of the novel is 'money and its effects on social ties.' In this novel the author explores the conflict between, doing what society expects and the idea of being true to oneself. John Harmon was supposed to marry Bella to suit the conditions of his father's will, but initially he refuses to do so. However, consequences and later incidents elaborate upon the socio-human needs of the human being. Reading this book has not only been rejoicing but a feast to mind and nourishment to soul. Every incident described in the novel leave the reader into a state of introspection, as all the characters appears to be real.
