Gene Stratton-Porter's "Moths of the Limberlost" is a must-have for nature lovers all around the world because of her skillful explanations of moths and sharp observation about nature and life in general. Porter writes about the moths with contagious zeal. There are many personal, elaborate accounts of discovering and breeding different species in the book. Gene Stratton-Porter (1863 - 1924) was an American naturalist, photographer, and author. She is well known for being one of the first ever women to start a movie production company. While residing in Geneva, Stratton-Porter spent much time exploring, observing nature, sketching, and making photographs at the Limberlost Swamp. She also began writing stories and books and books about nature; Moths of the Limberlost was of them. The Limberlost swamp was the setting for two of her most popular novels, Freckles (1904) and A Girl of the Limberlost (1909).
